The Birth of Vatsalya kids cancer trust
It was an eye check-up for a refractive error on a Tuesday morning at 10 AM when everything changed. What seemed like a simple visit to the doctor turned into the diagnosis of a brain tumor in my young son. The news was a shock that shattered my world. I felt overwhelmed by helplessness, anger, and guilt. Amidst the chaos, I was not only grappling with my own emotions but also trying to manage my son’s fear and confusion. Every moment felt like a battle, a test of strength and faith. But, by God's grace, my son underwent surgery the very next day. Miraculously, the procedure was a success, and his recovery exceeded all expectations. The first pathology report hit us like a punch to the gut: a high-risk tumor with an 8% survival rate. Panic swept through me as I thought of my family, of my daughter, and of all the things that might be lost. I couldn't imagine life without him. In that moment, I whispered a silent prayer, pleading with God to save my son. I clung to the hope of miracles , which i had seen in few of my patients .The love and support we received from family, friends, and even strangers became the anchor that helped me navigate those terrifying days. And then, as though by divine intervention, the diagnosis was revised after further investigations. The tumor wasn’t as aggressive as initially thought, giving us a renewed sense of hope. Being in the medical field ourselves, my husband and I connected with some of the leading pediatric neurology-oncologists around the world. Their expertise, combined with the support of our local doctors, guided us in making quick and informed decisions for my son's treatment. What followed was a regimen of rigorous treatment that our son faced with unimaginable strength and courage. By the grace of God, he completed the treatment successfully and emerged stronger than before, not only physically but emotionally as well. This journey through crisis and recovery opened my eyes to the profound needs of families battling childhood cancer. There were countless families who, like us, needed not just medical treatment, but emotional, financial, and logistical support during their darkest hours. That’s when the idea for Vatsalya Kids Cancer Trust was born. We created the trust to help fill these gaps—providing the vital support that families so desperately need in their fight against cancer. Through Vatsalya, we aim to offer a lifeline to families—whether it’s financial aid for treatment, counseling services, or simply the reassurance that they’re not alone in their fight. What began as a terrifying crisis has now become a beacon of hope for others, proving that even in the darkest moments, light can be found.
